Frederick R. Smith, D.O.
Dr. Frederick Smith received his medical degree at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital and the Rehabilitation Medicine Department at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
He is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine, American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners. In addition, he has held several academic appointments throughout his career and has frequently lectured to medical and legal professionals nationwide.
Dr. Smith's field of medicine is the medical specialty concerned with evaluating and treating patients with impairments and disabilities of the musculoskeletal and neurologic systems. The primary focus is on the maximal restoration of physical, psychological, social and vocational functions as well as the alleviation of pain. Electromyography is a testing technique which adds information regarding nerve and muscle function to the routine history, physical examination, X-ray, and laboratory testing often performed.
Dr. Smith has particular interests in evaluating patients injured in work environments and serves as the medical director of Hays Medical Center's Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit.
